Mosquito Control Project

The City of Lowell is a part of the Central Massachusetts Mosquito Control Project (CMMCP).

What is the Central Massachusetts Mosquito Control Project (CMMCP)?

  • Mosquito control means different things to different people, and many misconceptions exist.
  • CMMCP's efforts are based on surveillance and integrated mosquito management, using targeted applications of very specific pesticides only after predetermined thresholds of mosquitoes have been exceeded.
  • Other areas of control are performed without the applications of pesticides at all.
  • Additional details about the CMMCP, including who they are, what they do, and how they do it, are available on the Central Massachusetts Mosquito Control Project website.

How can I get CMMCP to spray my property for mosquitoes?

  • CMMCP will be in Lowell once a week during mosquito breeding season to investigate complaints about mosquitoes.
  • You may request to spray for adult mosquitoes in your area by following the instructions at their site.
  • Note that the program shuts down when cool night time temperatures become predominant in this area.

How do I know if CMMCP spraying is working?

The CMMCP offers weekly reports.

Who can I contact if I have questions or complaints about the CMMCP?

  • The CMMCP office may be reached at 508-393-3055, Monday - Friday, between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
  • Their website is very informative.
