Sewer & Drain Construction Work Summer 2009

Lowell Regional Wastewater Utility

The City of Lowell, through the Lowell Regional Wastewater Utility, is undertaking sewer separation work during the summer months to lessen the disruption to the city's school system. Work hours will be from 7 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Thursday, until August 27, 2009. Heavily traveled streets will be open to local businesses and residents, emergency vehicles, trash pickup and city / school buses only. Local side streets will be closed at both ends and traffic will be detoured along parallel streets. Residents only will be allowed to pass. Lowell police officers will be stationed at either end of the detours with a third officer assigned to the construction crew to aid with the traffic flow.

For the week of July 27 to July 31, 2009 construction will take place on the following streets:

Chelmsford Street - reclaim and binder paving from Plain Street to Shaw Street (the Lincoln School). One lane of traffic will be allowed to pass. NO VEHICLE RESTRICTIONS

Gorham Street - binder paving from Maple Street to Manchester Street. One lane of traffic will be allowed to pass. NO VEHICLE RESTRICTIONS

Stevens Street - storm drain installation from Chelmsford Street to Parker Street. DETOUR onto Parker Street and Chelmsford Street. LOCAL TRAFFIC ONLY allowed to pass.

Wilder Street - storm drain installation from Midland Street to Avery Street. DETOUR onto adjacent streets.

Baltimore Avenue - storm drain installation DETOUR onto adjacent streets.

Midland Street - gas main re-location DETOUR onto adjacent streets.

Westchester Street - gas main re-location DETOUR onto adjacent streets.

Shaw Street - gas main re-location DETOUR onto adjacent streets.
