Conservation Commission

The Conservation Commission  is responsible for overseeing the protection of wetlands, riverbanks, and wildlife as defined by the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act; the Commission also issues permits and orders of conditions for work to be performed near protected areas under MGL Ch 131 s. 40. Seven (7) members are appointed by the City Manager to a (3) year term. Statute Reference: MGL C.40 s.8C; Accepted 10/04/1960.

Regulations and Forms

Submittal Requirements

All submittals must be made to the Lowell Conservation Commission two weeks in advance of a meeting date to make the Agenda. Applicants must provide one (1) original version of all documents and plans, seven (7) copies of all plans and electronic versions of all materials for distribution to the Conservation Commission members and applicable City Departments.

Meetings

Commission meetings are held on the second (2nd) and fourth (4th) Wednesday of the month at 7:00pm in the City Council Chambers at 375 Merrimack Street (City Hall), Second Floor. Notice of meetings is posted on the bulletin board outside of the City Clerk's Office and agendas are posted and available on the City's website one week before meetings.
