Are you or someone in your family disabled?

During an emergency calling 911 can save your life.  If you or someone in your family needs to communicate over the phone by a TTY or has a disability that may hinder evacuation or transport, you may want to join the "Disability Indicator Program".  With this program, codes are displayed on the 911 dispatcher's screen automatically giving the first responders (ambulance, police and fire) the facts needed to safely provide the help needed.  Visit the Disability Indicator Program web page for more details and the required form.

The City of Lowell works together as a team to plan for emergency events such as the ice storm of 2009.  Check back in the fall for videos and more details of just how the City of Lowell is preparing to keep the community safe in disasters.

Does your family have an emergency plan?

Planning before an emergency happens can save lives.  Every home should have an emergency bag in the event your family needs to evacuate.  Many people forget medications.  When you use up a bottle of medications, you should place the bottle (with one or two pills) into the bag.  Change every couple of months so they do not expire and remember to add new medications as prescribed.  Remember your pets too.  Make a plan now.
