Group Insurance Commission (GIC) Transition
Up one levelPursuant to Chapter 69 of the Acts of 2011, the City of Lowell will be transferring all its employees, retirees and survivors to Group Insurance Commission (GIC) health benefits effective July 1, 2012. The benefit options are on the GIC web site for you to view. Rates and changes may be made to the plans in March. If you wish to be enrolled in health insurance as of July 1, 2012, you must apply for coverage during the GIC open enrollment period of Monday, April 9 – Monday, May 7, 2012. When you enroll in a GIC health plan, you will need to provide GIC required documents along with your enrollment form. Please begin gathering the documentation required for health coverage. Your failure to provide this documentation at the time of enrollment will cause the GIC to reject your enrollment form. If you need documents from local governments or courts, please start to assemble that information right away. If you have any questions, please contact the Human Relations Office @ 978-674-4105 or via e-mail to ssouthworth@lowellma.gov.
