Motion-5/29/07-Hobson Street one way

TO:

TO:                  Mayor William F. Martin, Jr.

                                    And

Members of the Lowell City Council

FROM:            Bernard F. Lynch, City Manager

DATE:             June 8, 2007

RE:                   Council Motion of 5/29/07 by Councillor Rodney Elliott

“Request the City Manger have the Traffic Engineer explore the possibility of making Hobson Street one way.”

I have contacted Jeff Gomes, Traffic Engineer, regarding the motion mentioned above.  Jeff stated that he visited the site in question and made some conclusions.  Hobson Street is a very short, 26-foot wide, low volume street that is high in parking demand.  In order to safely accommodate parking on both sides of the street, the street should only be allowed one direction of travel.

Therefore, making Hobson Street one-way will be included in the quarterly Traffic Ordinances, scheduled to be before the City Council at their next meeting on Tuesday, June 26, 2007.

If you have any questions, please let me know.  Thank you.
