Motion-6/26/07-Market St. One-Way

TO:              Mayor William F. Martin, Jr.

                             And

Members of the Lowell City Council

FROM:        Bernard F. Lynch, City Manager

DATE:         July 6, 2007

SUBJECT:   MOTION OF 6/26/07 BY COUNCILOR RITA MERCIER

REQUEST THE CITY MANAGER HAVE THE PROPER DEPARTMENT PLACE ONE WAY SIGN/ARROW AT THE EXIT OF CANAL PLACE ONTO MARKET STREET

________________________________________________________________________

Please be advised that I have been in contact with Matt Coggins, DPD Director regarding the above-mentioned motion.  Matt has informed me that Jeff Gomes, Transportation Engineer visited the site in question and made some conclusions.  The driveway exiting Canal Place onto Market Street is very wide and has a moderate amount of vehicles entering and exiting during the day.  It has been reported that there have been some vehicles exiting Canal Place taking an illegal left turn onto Market Street, putting other motorists at risk.

Therefore, Jeff Gomes will work with the sign shop to install the proper

signage indicating that a left turn movement from Canal Place onto Market Street is prohibited.

If you have any further questions regarding this, please let me know.

Thank you.
