SUBJECT:       Council Motion of June 26, 2007 by Councilor Armand Mercier:  Request the City Manager to have the Board of Assessors report on the status of the Pilot Program”.

 

            In response the above-mentioned motion the Chief Assessor has provided the following information.  In accordance with a FY 1999 city council ordinance, the Board of Assessors requests PILOT payments from the non-profit tax exempt organizations located within the city limits on an annual basis.  The amounts requested are formulated using the current annual tax levy and the square footage of land of the agency occupies.

            The letters of request, signed by the City Manager and the Chief Assessor and are mailed within three months after the actual tax bill is mailed (Febrary/March).   The first letters were mailed in FY 2000.  Below is a history of the number of letters mailed, the number of payments received and the total dollar amounts received by fiscal year:
