TO:                  Mayor William F. Martin, Jr.

                                    And

Members of the Lowell City Council

FROM:            Bernard F. Lynch, City Manager

SUBJECT:       MOTION OF 07/10/07 BY COUNCILOR JAMES MILINAZZO

REQUEST THE CITY MANAGER TO REPORT ON THE NUMBER OF

NEW AND RETAINED JOBS IN THE CITY IN THE LAST TWELVE MONTHS

In response to the above-mentioned motion, the Division of Planning and Development (DPD) reviewed its records for the past 12 months and calculated the number of jobs created or retained based on assistance directly provided by DPD to businesses. In summary, DPD was successful in retaining eight and recruiting six companies resulting in the retention of 380 and creation of 1,042 full-time jobs for a total of 1,422 jobs. The types and sizes of companies vary, from Motorola who created close to 600 jobs in the Cross Point building to Indoor Playground who relocated from the Town of Andover to Chelmsford Street.
