WHAT IF I FIND A PARKING SPOT IN DOWNTOWN WITH NO METER?
- Remember you are in a metered district, if you are not parked at a meter you are illegally parked
IF I HAVE A HANDICAPP PLACARD CAN I PARK AT A METER WITHOUT PUTTING MONEY IN THE METER?
- Yes, however the owner of the placard must be in the vehicle and the placard date must be valid
WHAT PARKING METER BELONGS TO MY CAR?
- The meter must be at the front of your vehicle, unless it is a double headed meter than the meter may be at the rear of your car. In no case should the meter be in the middle of your vehicle.
WHAT IF I’M PARKED AT A BROKEN OR JAMMED METER?
- You should move to a functioning meter ~ if you receive a ticket you can report the broken meter at 978-970-4152
HOW LONG CAN I PARK AT A METER?
- The majority of the meters are a 2 hour limit, you must move your car after this time ~ please note that if you put more money in your meter you are now meter feeding and are subject to being ticketed. Any parking longer than 2 hours should be parked in one of the four parking garages. Please note through out the city there are 15 minute meters, these have a large yellow sticker notifying you of this.
HOW AND WHY COULD I RENT A METER BAG AND WHAT IS THE COST?
- Any person/company doing a construction work in the downtown area and need to have their work truck close to the site may rent a meter bag. The cost is $10.00 per bag, per day with a $25.00 deposit which will be refunded when the bags are returned. Bags can be picked up at the John St. parking facility.

All parking garages are Pay On Foot. After parking your car, take your parking ticket with you to your destination, when you return to the garage pay at the Paystation located near the office. Proceed to your car, drive down and insert your ticket into the slot on the exit gate with the magnetic strip up and to the right.All parking garages accept credit cards. (Master Card, Visa, and American Express- Discover is NOT accepted). You can use your credit card at either the Paystation or at the exit gate.
HOW DO I PAY AT THE PAYSTATION?
- Paying by cash:
All Paystations accept coins (except pennies), and bills (up to a $20.00 bill).Insert your ticket in the designated slot. It will tell you the amount that you owe. Then you insert your cash into the money slot. It will then process your transaction. If a receipt is needed please press the receipt button. If you are getting change back, wait for your ticket to be printed and your change will be in the change bin below. Take your ticket and your receipt with you and proceed to your car. Drive down to the exit gate and insert your ticket as stated above. - Paying by credit card:
Insert your ticket in the designated slot. It will tell you the amount that you owe. Then you insert your credit card into the same slot the exact same way as your ticket (magnetic strip up and to the right). It will process your credit card, press the receipt button. Take your ticket and your receipt with you and proceed to your car. Drive down to the exit gate and insert your ticket as stated above. - Paying at the exit gate:
You may pay at the exit gate with a credit card only. You man not use cash at the exit gate.Insert your ticket in the designated slot. It will tell you the amount you owe. Then you insert your credit card into the same slot the exact same way as your ticket; magnetic strip up and to the right. It will process your credit card and issue a receipt. When you take your receipt the gate will open. You are all set to drive out.
WHAT IF MY TICIKET IS VALIDATED?
- If your ticket is validated please proceed directly to your car. Drive down to the exit gate, insert your ticket as stated above. The gate will process your validated ticket and open.
WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO PURCHASE A PASSCARD AT THE GARAGE?
- You must go into the garage office with your vehicle registration and your monthly payment. You will be required to fill out a registration form. The current monthly rate and a one time $10.00 non refundable administration fee is payable at that time. You will be issued a complete set of rules and regulations at this time.
HOW CAN I PAY FOR MY MONTHLY PAYMENT AND HOW MANY MONTHS CAN I PAY AT ONE TIME?
- You may pay by either cash-check-or credit card, payable 6 months in advance.
WHAT DO I DO IF I HAVE LOST MY TICKET?
- The lost ticket fee is $8.00. You must go into the garage office with your registration and license (this is a security issue). The customer representative will verify that you own the vehicle and will then issue you a ticket to exit the garage.
WHAT IF I FORGOT TO GET MY TICKET VALIDATED WHAT SHOULD I DO?
- You have two choices. You can either go back to have it properly validated or you may pay for the ticket.
I LIVE IN ONE OF THE APARTMENT COMPLEXES AND I AM HAVING A GUEST FOR THE WEEKEND, IS THERE A SPECIAL RATE FOR MY GUESTS?
- At this time there is not a special rate for guests. Your guest will have to pay for their parking ticket upon exiting the garage. They may pay for the parking ticket either at the paystation, or at the exit gate with a credit card.
HOW DO I CANCEL MY MONTHLY PASS CARD?
- You must go into the garage office and return your card and cancel your account. This is so that you will not be billed any further on your account. You will be required to pay for any usage on the passcard at either the daily rate or the monthly rate if it is after the 1st of the month (to be determined by facility supervisor)
I CANCELED MY PASSCARD BUT I WANT TO REINSTATE IT HOW DO I GO ABOUT THIS?
- Go into the garage office and let them know that you had a passcard and that you returned it and would like to take out another passcard. You will be required to fill out another registration card, pay the current monthly rate, and also the $10.00 administration fee.
