2013 City Election Dates to Keep in Mind

 2013 City Election Dates to Keep in Mind  

All potential 2013 candidates need to keep the following dates in mind.

​June 3, 2013
​Candidate kits, with nomination papers, available.  These must be picked up by the candidate only.
​August 6, 2013, 5:00 PM
Deadline to submit nomination papers.  Each candidate must have at least 50 certified signatures to appear on the ballot.  At least one nomination paper must be notarized.
​August 22, 2013, 10:00 AM
Last day to withdraw name from ballot.
​August 23, 2013, 10:00 AM
​Drawing for position on ballot, if preliminary election is needed.
​September 4, 2013, 8:00 PM
Deadline to register to vote for the Preliminary Election, if preliminary election is needed.  Election Office open until 8pm deadline.  Mail-in voter registration forms postmarked on or before September 4 are also accepted.

Availability of absentee ballots for preliminary election, if preliminary election is needed.
​​​September 16, 2013. 5:00 PM
​Deadline for School Committee & Greater Lowell Technical School Committee candidates to file campaign finance reports – if preliminary election is needed. *
​​​September 23, 2013. 12:00 PM
Deadline to apply for absentee ballot for preliminary election (if preliminary election is to be held).  Voters casting absentee ballot via postal mail are urged to apply in advance.
​​​​September 24, 2013
Preliminary Election (if necessary).  Polls open 7am – 8pm.  Absentee ballots must be received in Election Commission Office by 8pm to be counted.  They CANNOT be accepted at the polls except by election official.

Deadline to register to vote for City Election.  Election Office open until 8pm deadline.  Mail-in voter registration forms postmarked on or before October 16 are also accepted.
