Flooding Alert

Important notice to the City of Lowell's residents and businesses regarding flooding.

Please Note:

Mayor William F. Martin Jr. declared a State of Emergency within the City of Lowell on 4/17/07, as a result of the Merrimack River's water levels which rapidly rose above projected levels.  The City of Lowell is carefully coordinating with various organizations to stay abreast of the situation and will update this site as additional information becomes available. 

As of now, please be advised that:

  • A Neighborhood Flood Assistance Center has been established @ the Lowell Elks Lodge on 40 Old Ferry Road. 

  • Start preparing for flood recovery here!!  Need clothing, housing, or other goods as a result of the flood?  Want to donate clothing or other goods? Need help with rebuilding your home?  Disaster Assistance Information has been consolidated here

  •  All of the City's bridges, water supply, electrical supply, and sewerage system remain safe and stable.

  • The flood caused various traffic interruptions.
  • At this time, Malden Avenue remains partially closed.
  • Additional traffic updates are available here.

  • The City has closed the emergency shelter at the Lowell Senior Center on Broadway St. (978-970-4131).  

  • National Grid has rescheduled the electrical service interuptions originally planned to take place on 4/18/07 on various streets within the City; the work has been rescheduled for Friday (4/20/07).  For more information, please contact National Grid Customer Service at 1-800-322-3223.
