Msg from Keyspan: Gas Service Interruptions Due to Flooding
"KeySpan has begun the process of restoring natural gas service to our customers affected by flooding. Due to the circumstances that were experienced by the flooding, certain inspections must be performed by the City of Lowell Gas Inspector prior to the restoration of your service. Keyspan will continue to work with Lowell officials to coordinate the restortation of your gas service in a safe and timely manner. Below is an outline of the steps that need to be taken and the process that must be followed as we work together to restore your gas service. We ask that you first coordinate the initial call with the City of Lowell's Inspectional Services Office at 978-970-4036; this will prompt a follow up call after that inspection to Keyspan."
Situation One: Basement Flooded / Street Flooded
- If your gas meter is/was underwater, KeySpan will need to replace the gas meter.
- If any of your natural gas appliances - heaters, water heaters, clothes dryers - are/were underwater. KeySpan will not be able to turn these appliances on without an inspection by the City's Gas Inspector.
- If water is/was present in your piping, KeySpan will need to lock off the gas service, and will leave a notice for the City Gas Inspector to review the situation. Once inspected and repaired, KeySpan will return to re-light the appliances.
- Should we determine that additional KeySpan equipment has been damaged, we will need to schedule additional visits before gas service can be restored
Situation Two: Basement not flooded but street experienced flooding, and natural gas service was shut off as a precaution
- KeySpan will need to verify that the gas meter, gas service and other equipment were not affected. Gas service will be restored following this inspection.
Situation Three: Water present in natural gas mains in the street and gas services to homes
- KeySpan will excavate within the street to identify the damage and make repairs. KeySpan will need to verify that the gas meter, gas service and other equipment were not affected. Gas service will be restored following this inspection.
Situation Four: Although your basement and street were not flooded, your gas service has been interrupted as a precaution
- Due to nearby flooding, KeySpan needed to take precautionary actions in isolating damaged areas and has shut off your service. We will restore your gas service as soon as we complete work in the affected area.
