On July 22, 2008, MassHighway announced the reconstruction of the Chelmsford Street/Plain Street intersection. The project is being done in order to improve traffic flow and safety at the State’s 17th most dangerous intersection.

The project will begin the week of July 28, 2008 with drainage work. Intersection reconstruction will begin in earnest the week of August 4.
At that time, Powell Street will become one way heading from Chelmsford Street towards Liberty Street. MassHighway will post traffic signs along Powell Street at cross streets before the new traffic pattern is implemented. Powell Street will permanently remain one way.

The project is expected to be complete before the end of the year.
