Armenian-American Community Holds Procession and Flag-Raising in Commemoration of 1.5 Million Slain in WWI Era
On Saturday, April 21, the Armenian National Committee of the Merrimack Valley sponsored a procession, flag-raising and reception to commemorate Armenian heritage. In particular, the event focused on remembrance of the 1.5 million Armenians who were killed, mainly by Turks of the Ottoman Empire, between 1915 and 1923.
The event included several speeches and songs related to Armenian heritage, as well as the unveiling of an artist's rendition of the Armenian Genocide Remembrance Memorial, which will be emplaced near the front steps of Lowell's City Hall next year.
