Call for Applications: United Way's "Summer Experiences in Greater Lowell" Grant

Lowell-area organizations are invited to apply to receive up to $10,000 for quality summer youth programming.

United Way of Massachusetts Bay & Merrimack Valley announced today the release of its 2010 Summer Experiences in Greater Lowell (SEGL) grant application.  The goal of SEGL is to provide Lowell youth with productive and safe summer programming that helps them develop leadership, social, and academic skills in a fun and enriching environment.

To be eligible for funding, programs must meet the following requirements:

  • Be fiscally sound with a balanced budget
  • Run at least four to six weeks during the summer
  • Run at least four days each week
  • Serve a minimum of 20 children per session
  • Offer an open registration process
  • Provide summer staff, including junior staff, with at least one day of comprehensive training before the program begins
  • Offer suitable hours for working parents
  • Focus on "whole child " development
  • Encourage children with physical and/or emotional disabilities to engage in program activities along with other children (i.e., mainstreaming)


The application must be completed in its entirety and submitted by April 8, 2010 5 P.M. in order to be considered for 2010 funding.
