On Thursday, March 19^th at a ceremony at the State House, the City of Lowell was recognized with a 2009 E-Government Award with Distinction from Common Cause.  Common Cause is a non-partisan, nonprofit advocacy organization founded in 1970 as a vehicle for citizens to make their voices heard in the political process, to hold their elected leaders accountable to the public interest and to encourage transparency in government.  The award recognizes communities that have placed a priority on providing the public with important documents related to its governance online.  

To qualify for the e-Government Award, a town or city must post their governing body’s agenda and minutes, budget information, general by-laws, and–if applicable–their town meeting warrant and results.  To earn the award with distinction, the City of Lowell was one of only 46 communities in the state to exceed the criteria by providing archived governing board agenda and minutes, zoning by-laws, agendas and minutes for an additional board or committee, and a calendar with all public meetings.
