Division of Development Services announces development project information now available online!

In its most recent effort to increase transparency and improve customer service, the Development Services Division of the City of Lowell’s Department of Planning and Development is now making development project information available online.

Project information will be made available for developments seeking Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, or Conservation Commission approval. Development Services is the product of a reorganized Department of Planning and Development to provide a one-stop center for land-use, permitting, and code enforcement activities in the city. In addition to expediting the permitting process for developers and builders, the reorganization is intended to ensure that development projects are socially, economically and environmentally viable, with minimal impacts on neighborhood quality of life. The relocation of key personnel to a single office has already improved communication and collaboration across areas of expertise – from environmental conservation to building inspection to historic preservation.

All development projects currently seeking review and permitting from the city’s major land-use boards - the Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals- are now linked to the Department website here: http://lowellma.gov/depts/dpd/permitting/developmentprojects.

By publicizing this project information through its website, the City hopes to encourage greater resident participation in decision-making processes. All applications, supporting documentation, and department comments for all projects are also available in hard copy format at the Division of Development Services (Lowell City Hall, 375 Merrimack Street, Room 51) between the hours of 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM. For further questions on any of these projects, please contact the Division of Development Services at 978-674-4144.
