Senior Center operations resume 5/25/06
After successfully functioning as the City's Emergency Evacuation Center since the Flood of 5/15/06, the Senior Center is ready to resume its normal operations.
The City would like to thank everyone that regularly visits the Lowell Senior Center for your understanding.
The Lowell Senior Center has been a temporary shelter for those individuals and families who have become homeless due to our recent flood. The Senior Center was a great location for this purpose as it provided a place to sleep, eat, and shower. The 30 or so families who stayed at our center are grateful for the space and thank the seniors for their hospitality.
Every senior who visited or called was understanding and patient with the situation. Our decision to keep the Lowell Senior Center closed during this emergency was so that the residents of Lowell who were displaced could have some privacy and a sense of safety. Many seniors stopped by with clothing, toiletries and other hosehold items.
By the time you read this announcement, the Lowell Senior Center will be open for your enjoyment and all of our new friends will have found new homes.
Thank you again for your understanding and generosity of spirit.
