Police Department Accomplishments

During Calendar Year 2014

  • ​Implemented a reorganization which will help facilitate additional oversight and enhance the institutionalization of community and evidence-based policing. 

During Calendar Year 2013

  • Continued trend of decrease in overall Group B NIBRS crimes (12%);
  • 11% decrease in rapes;
  • 9% decrease in burglaries;
  • 10% decrease in shoplifting;
  • 19% decrease in weapons law violations;
  • 43% decrease in gang crime;
  • 9% decrease in domestic violence;
  • 38% decrease in juvenile crime;
  • 28% decrease in Downtown disorder;
  • Received $3,098,971 in state, federal and private grant funding;
  • Increased visibility through foot patrols;
  • Hosted gun buy back in which 36 guns were collected; and
  • Hosted 15th annual Summer Student Police Academy.

During Calendar Year 2012

  • Continued trend of decrease in overall Group A NIBRS crimes (.5%)
  • 5% decrease in overall Group B NIBRS crimes
  • 0 murders
  • 9.8% decline in burglaries
  • 14% decrease in vandalism incidents
  • 8% decrease in Downtown disorder
  • 38.3% decrease in aggravated assaults
  • 18.2% decrease in arson
  • 13.6% decrease in disorderly conduct
  • 24.9% decrease in juvenile crime
  • Received $2,292,089.82 in state, federal and private grant funding, the Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation grant
  • Made great strides with completing the policies and procedures
  • Wrote 24,009 citations to motorists
  • The Warrant Apprehension Unit made 630 arrests of individuals with outstanding warrants, clearing 1,829 outstanding charges
