City of Lowell Options

The City of Lowell has several options for proper disposal. Please bring sharps in a "sharps container" or a sturdy container that is water and puncture proof (such as bleach or detergent bottle) to one of the following locations.

  • The Lowell Health Department accepts sharps Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Tuesday from 8:00 am - 8:00 pm and Friday from 8:00 am - 12:00 Noon. For additional information, please call 978-674-1049.
  • The Lowell Senior Center accepts sharps Monday - Friday from 6:30 am - 4:00 pm. For additional information, please call 978-674-1171.
  • The Lowell Regional Wastewater Utility accepts sharps on the last Saturday of every month from 8:00 am - 12:00 Noon. For additional information, please call 978-674-4248.
  • Unwanted Medication and Sharps Disposal Days - the Health Department holds four medication and sharps disposal days each year.  Please place your sharps in a sharps container or in a puncture-proof container such as a rigid detergent or bleach bottle. For dates and information, please call 978-674-4010.
  • Household Hazardous Waste Days - the Solid Waste and Recycling Office holds two household hazardous waste day a year. One in the spring and one in the fall. Please place your sharps in a sharps container or in a puncture-proof container such as a rigid detergent or bleach bottle. For dates and information, please call 978-674-4309.

Please note that none of these locations is equipped to accept commercial disposal of sharps - only household disposal.
