The Lowell Historic Board (LHB) distributes custom designed and fabricated open/closed signs free of charge to businesses in the Downtown Lowell Historic District. While businesses can utilize their own, please note that electronic, illuminated, neon, and lit open signs are prohibited in the District and cannot hang or be placed in storefront windows in any manner.
These signs were first created in 1989 in partnership with The Lowell Plan and the Lowell Development and Financial Corporation and represent one of the Historic Board’s earliest community engagement and outreach efforts. If you would like one, please contact the LHB at sstowell@lowellma.gov.
