Election Workers

Role

The City of Lowell's Election and Census Office employees approximately 225 poll workers per election, across our 11 Wards (containing 33 precincts). Each polling location is staffed with a minimum of six poll workers, including a Warden, a Clerk, and four Inspectors. Translators are also assigned to each polling location, based on need. All poll workers are paid, and subject to very specific rules/guidelines/policies.

Become A Poll Worker

We are always interested in hearing from prospective poll workers that may be available for future elections. The City pays poll workers $280 for working on Election Day and $20 for attending the training session. If a poll worker cannot work the full day we also pay an hourly rate, but this needs to be arraigned with the Election Office prior to the election. We are also interested in poll workers who are interested in working early voting.

If you are interested in being a paid poll worker in our next election, please download, complete, sign, and return the 2022 Election Worker Application Packet. This application packet includes a Massachusetts M-4 Tax Form (PDF) and a completed Federal W-4 Tax Form (PDF) that you need to fill out.

Once you have completed the entire packet, please return to City of Lowell Election and Census Office. There are several ways you can submit your application packet. You can hand deliver it to the City of Lowell’s mail slot. You can mail it to the following address:
