The Massachusetts Department of Transportation has announced that Father Morissette Blvd. Eastbound in Lowell will be closed to vehicular traffic beginning at 9:00PM on Tuesday March 3rd to facilitate the assembly of a large crane in preparation for steel girder removal of Bridge L-015-049 (Pawtucket Street over the Northern Canal). The roadway will reopen again at 5:00AM Wednesday March 4th.

The Eastbound direction of Father Morrisette Blvd. will then be closed again on Thursday evening, March 5th at 9:00PM in order to allow crews to safely remove the existing steel girders from Phase 2 Bridge reconstruction of the Pawtucket Street over the Northern Canal Bridge.
All lanes of traffic will reopen by 5:00 AM Friday March 6th.

Father Morisette Blvd. Eastbound will be closed at Aiken Street and traffic will be detoured left onto Aiken Street, right onto Merrimack Street and will rejoin Father Morisette Blvd. at the University Avenue bridge intersection

Traffic signs and messaging will be used to guide drivers throughout the area. MassDOT encourages drivers to reduce speed and use caution.

All work is weather dependent and subject to change without notice. This work is associated with the $12.7 million project to replace or rehabilitate five canal bridges. This full project is expected to be completed in April 2022.
