The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has announced that Father Morissette Boulevard eastbound in Lowell will be closed to vehicular traffic beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, July 17. The eastbound closure is expected to last for 4 weeks, reopening in mid-August.
The closure is necessary to facilitate the positioning of necessary equipment for the installation of Rock Anchors at Bridge L-015-049 (Pawtucket Boulevard over Northern Canal).
This work is associated with the $12.7 million project to replace or rehabilitate 5 Canal Bridges. This project is expected to be completed in April 2022.
Father Morissette Boulevard eastbound will be closed at Aiken Street and traffic will be detoured left onto Aiken street, right onto Merrimack Street, and will rejoin Father Morissette Boulevard at the University Avenue bridge intersection.
Traffic signs and messaging will be used to guide drivers throughout the area. MassDOT encourages drivers to reduce speed and use caution. All work is weather dependent and subject to change without notice.
