Good afternoon,

Work on the Central Street Bridge over the Pawtucket Canal, which is part of the Lowell Canal Bridges TIGER project, will begin the week of April 15th . There will be a change to existing traffic patterns, as the project will close one of the northbound lanes to traffic for phase 1 of construction. Two way traffic will be maintained at all times. There are currently two lanes for northbound traffic (into Downtown) and one lane for southbound (toward the Connector) on the bridge. There will likely be significant congestion on Central Street northbound (from the Connector into Downtown) due to this project through the Spring of 2021. In order to keep the bridge open while under construction, there is an extended build schedule of 30 months. Thank you for your patience.
