Lowell, MA War Casualty Lists
Lowell Residents Who Died During Time of War While Serving in the U.S. Military
Compiled by Richard Howe
8-Oct-24
The entry foyer of the Lowell Memorial Auditorium, known as The Hall of Flags, contains 20 bronze tablets inscribed with the names of Lowell residents who have died while serving in the military forces of the United States during time of war.
Each war has its own tablet or tablets on which the names are listed alphabetically, except for World War II and Vietnam, on which the names are divided by branch of service and then listed alphabetically.
This document was created by transcribing the names listed on those tablets and is likely the most accurate record now available of Lowell service members who died in wartime.

Early American Conflicts
Lowell was founded in 1826, so the American Revolution and the War of 1812 occurred before Lowell came into existence. However, people who lived in the communities that became Lowell – Chelmsford, Dracut, and Tewksbury – did fight and die in those earlier conflicts, but their names have not been recorded here. Although the Mexican War took place after Lowell had become a city, it is unclear whether any Lowell residents died while serving in the military during that conflict.
A tablet in the Hall of Flags at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium addresses these earlier American Wars with this language:
This tablet is inscribed and erected by the citizens of Lowell as an enduring memorial to all from this vicinity who in earlier conflicts of the American nation gave their lives in the service of their country by land or sea:
The American Revolution: 1776 - 1781
The War of 1812
The Mexican War: 1846 - 1847
