Emergency Preparedness

About Emergency Preparedness

The Public Health division works with local and regional agencies to plan and prepare for emergencies that can affect the health of our community.

As a member of the Lowell Office of Emergency Preparedness, we plan and prepare for emergency response to pandemic or bioterrorism event that would require rapid dispensing of medical counter-measures (mass prophylaxis) to the entire population.

Upper Merrimack Valley Public Health Coalition

We also participate in Upper Merrimack Valley Public Health Coalition for Emergency Preparedness, a regional coalition for emergency preparedness and mutual aid. The coalition includes the following towns.
  • Billerica
  • Chelmsford
  • Dracut
  • Lowell
  • Tewksbury
  • Tyngsboro
  • Westford
Through the coalition we develop plans and preparedness to meet the health and sheltering of our communities in emergency situations, such as fire or flood.
