High Flow Management

Our combined sewer system requires a robust data collection and communication network in order to manage the wet-weather flows generated by rainfall over the developed portions of the city. Since 2011, multiple communication networks and real-time sensors have been developed on a secure network to enable our High Flow Management program, the goal of which is to:

  1. Maximize wet-weather flows to the Duck Island Clean Water Facility for proper treatment;
  2. Utilize the available in-line storage of our large-diameter interceptor pipes to reduce CSO volume and frequency, and;
  3. Minimize combined sewer overflow (CSO) discharges through frequent review and optimization of this process.
