Facility Permits

Massachusetts Stormwater General Permit
The Multi-Sector General Permit (MSGP) issued by the US EPA regulates stormwater discharges from the Duck Island Clean Water Facility. These discharges are the result of precipitation on the facility itself that are conveyed from the site through a separate storm drainage system and are not delivered to the wastewater treatment process. Most of the stormwater generated on site is directed to the headworks of the treatment facility, and so only a small portion of site runoff goes offsite through a separate drainage system. View our MSGP Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan for more information.

National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Wastewater Discharge Permit
The NPDES Wastewater Discharge Permit issed by the US EPA regulates the treatment and operation of the Duck Island Clean Water Facility. This permit is the primary reference for understanding the regulatory requirements concerning the quality of water discharged from Duck Island to the Merrimack River.
