The Lowell Sustainability Council (LSC) Recycling Subcommittee was established in April 2019 to (1) assist the City of Lowell with curbside recycling issues by utilizing and expanding partnerships with multiple organizations and (2) inform citizens and gain their compliance with city ordinances and policies. The Subcommittee is comprised of staff from the city’s Solid Waste and Recycling Office, LSC members, and volunteers.
The current work of the Subcommittee is focused on reducing contamination of recycled materials that residents put into recycling carts that are picked up every two weeks by Waste Management, the city’s contractor for curbside trash and recycling pickup. Contamination of recycled materials costs the city hundreds of thousands of dollars yearly.
Meeting information is provided below. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. The Subcommittee meeting agendas and meeting notes and other materials are posted here for public review.
