CITY‐WIDE RECYCLING AUDIT PRESS RELEASE

The City of Lowell’s solid waste and recycling contractor, Waste Management, will have an audit completed on city‐wide recycling beginning on Monday, January 13, 2020 and continuing through Friday, January 24, 2020. The audit consists of an analysis of a daily sample taken from recycling material collected within neighborhoods. The percentage of non‐recyclable items within the sample is calculated. Higher percentages of non‐recyclable materials may result in higher recycling fees for the City.

In advance of this audit, the City reminds the community of best recycling practices. In addition to the guidelines listed below, some other non‐recyclable items that the City typically finds in recycling bins include Styrofoam, coated wrapping paper, toys, wood, lights, bulky items (broom, fake Christmas trees), and shredded paper.

Should you have any questions about recycling, please contact Chris Haley, the Solid Waste/Recycling Coordinator, at 978‐674‐4309. Additional information is also available www.LowellRecycle.org. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in this effort.WM-Recycle Poster

Why was my cart missed?
To make sure your carts get picked up, follow these rules. Carts must:
  • be out by 7 am on your service day
  • be against or at the edge of the curb and at least an arm's length from any vehicle
  • have closed lids
  • be less than 250 pounds - the trucks have weight limitations on what they can pick up!
If your trash or recycling carts are given rejection stickers, the carts are in violation of one of the above rules or contain items that do not belong in that cart. Please do not report a miss if your carts are in violation of any of the above rules, or have rejection stickers.
